Market Animal Show & Sale (MASS)

Thank you for your interest in showing and selling livestock projects!  The Marathon County Market Animal Show & Sale was established more than 50 years ago with the purpose of:

  • Developing young people through education and competition opportunities in agriculture-related fields, specifically in livestock production
  • Teaching youth participants skills in livestock production and promoting meat quality
  • Provide an opportunity to promote the importance of the livestock industry to rural & urban businesses and our communities

Youth involved in the program can improve their sense of responsibility, expand their leadership ability and to see the potential in opportunities in agriculture.  All participants EARN the right to participate through a self-determined education plan includes the following educational opportunities:

  • Attending meetings on properly feeding and caring for meat animals;
  • Attending workshops, project meetings, and show camps;
  • Participating in livestock and meats/carcass judging contests, quiz bowls and skill-a-thon contests

Participants must raise quality animals that meet both weight and quality standards. There are several additional requirements outside of the Junior Fair requirements that must be met for MASS participation. Youth that meet ALL of the education requirements, program requirements and deadlines are eligible to participate in the market animal sale. All youth and families participating in the program are required to attend the annual informational meeting, held in January. Program requirements, deadlines and opportunities are discussed at that meeting.

New families are encouraged to reach out to a MASS Committee representative for more information about getting started in the program. Committee member information can be found in the link below. Or please email the committee at marathoncomass@gmail.com.
