2024 4-H Summer Camp – Lincoln, Marathon, and Wood Counties
2024 Overnight Camp Will Be Held at Northern Lakes Impact Center in Rhinelander, WI
Camp Date: June 10-12, 2024 (Staff arrives the afternoon of June 9)
Welcome to the 4-H Summer Camp program with Lincoln, Marathon, and Wood county 4-H programs. This year we are offering one 4-H camp for campers in grades 3rd-7th grade. This information is for counselors and adults interested in being on the planning committee & camp staff.
Overnight Camp Information – Counselors must be currently in 8th Grade and older. Adults must be fully certified 4-H volunteers. No previous experience required. Campers, counselors & adults will lodge in cabins.
OLDER YOUTH STAFF POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:
Positions are made available based on the strengths of the candidates and the needs of the overall camp program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three Types of Leadership:
- Jr. Directors: Current 11th grade or older
- Track Leaders: Current 9th grade or older
- Resource Counselors: Current 8th grade or older
- Willingness to be creative, energetic and compassionate
- Ability to lead and support others
JR. DIRECTORS Up to 4 Selected
This role includes camp leadership along with being a resource to counselors. Youth should have counselor experience. Responsible for program/theme planning with the camp committee. Also assist with staff/counselor planning and training meetings. Additional assignments with campers or general camp operation will be assigned by the 4-H Educators.
TRACK LEADERS Up to 6 Selected
Responsible for planning and leading 4 sessions related to one of the following topics: Natural Resources, Arts & Crafts, or Recreation.
RESOURCE COUNSELORS: Up to 15 Selected (More may be selected depending on camper enrollment)
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of up to 8 campers. Responsible for escorting campers to and from all scheduled activities and assisting/participating in camp activities. Resource Counselors will engage in planning and leading other activities.
ADULT STAFF POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be a Certified 4-H Volunteer (Completed all 4-H Volunteer Trainings and Background Check)
- Be in good physical condition to withstand the rigors associated with camp programs such as walking on uneven ground, participating in camp activities, sleeping in cabins
- Willingness to be creative, energetic and compassionate
- Work cooperatively with fellow adult and youth staff team members.
- Assist counselors with specific roles
- Complete the 4-H Supporting Youth Mental Health Training prior to May 1st.
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS: (Male and female adults are encouraged to apply. Adult staff positions are made available based on the strengths of the candidates and the needs of the overall camp program.)
- General Camp Staff: Assist with camp duties and supervision of campers/counselors for up to 4 days. Specific roles and duties will be provided prior to camp.
- Camp Medic: Medic is responsible for providing medical care to campers. This includes administering medications and first aid. Individuals certified in CPR and First Aid are encouraged to volunteer. Preference will be given to those with a medical background.
Time Commitment: Adult staff will be most effective if they attend the whole camp experience. However, we will try to meet the requests of adults that need to adjust their time at camp.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
1. Submit an application via link provided no later than Jan. 31, 2024.
2. Attend Camp Staff Meetings. All 4-H Summer Camp counselors and Jr Directors are required to attend the Camp Staff Training and Planning Sessions. Adults are encouraged to attend as many counselor training sessions as possible. Please mark them on your calendars and reserve the dates.

- Interviews may be held if necessary.
- Final Camp Counselor and Adult Staff selections will be made by the 4-H Educators by February .
